COVID-19 Daily Update 3-8-2022

CHARLESTON (WVDN) – The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 8, 2022, there are currently 1,582 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 18 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,470 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 72-year old male from Berkeley County, a 51-year old female from Lincoln County, an 82-year old male from Mineral County, a 95-year old male from Kanawha County, a 71-year old female from Clay County, a 78-year old male from Berkeley County, a 73-year old female from Cabell County, a 70-year old male from McDowell County, a 72-year old male from Jackson County, an 86-year old female from Mason County, a 79-year old male from Logan County, and a 59-year old female from Kanawha County.

Included in the total deaths reported on the dashboard as a result of the Bureau for Public Health’s continuing data reconciliation with the official death certificate are a 56-year-old female from Hancock County, a 61-year-old female from Berkeley County, a 68-year-old female from Berkeley County, a 70-year-old female from Lincoln County, a 45-year-old male from Morgan County, and an 83-year-old male from Fayette County. These deaths range from December 2021 through February 2022.

“Every loss brings much grief to family and friends,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “We must do our best to stop this deadly virus by choosing to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.”

Delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. West Virginians ages 5 years and older are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Booster shots are also available for those 12 and older. To learn more about the vaccine, or to find a vaccine site near you, visit vaccinate.wv.gov or call 1-833-734-0965.

Free pop-up COVID-19 testing is available in Greenbrier County, 9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., State Fair of WV, 891 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg.

Check with the testing site, DHHR’s social media pages and the COVID-19 website https://dhhr.wv.gov/COVID-19/pages/testing.aspx for any last minute cancellations, and to find other free testing opportunities across West Virginia.
