Greenbrier West got double-digit scoring from four players and cruised to a 79-26 victory over Richwood Tuesday night in the Little Red Gym. Preslee Treadway continued to energize the Lady Cavaliers since her return from preseason surgery, leading all scorers with 20 points. Fellow freshman Maddie Fields had a tremendously balanced effort with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Ava Barclay chipped in with 16 points including 3 three-pointers, and Raelyn Palmer added 14 for the victorious Cavaliers.

Greenbrier West matched their season-high with 6 three-pointers in a game, but more importantly had a season-low 14 turnovers in the contest. The Lady Cavaliers ran away from Richwood in the first quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 27-5. Fields led West with 7 points, including her team-leading 10th three-pointer, in the opening period. Treadway got hot in the second quarter, tallying 11 of the Cavaliers’ 16 second-quarter points for a 43-12 halftime lead. Meagan Poticher, who had a 7-point, 8-rebound night, led West with four points in the third. Palmer finished off the Lumberjacks in the fourth quarter with an 8-point flurry.

Since her return, Treadway has averaged over 17 points-per-game for a team that sorely needed an infusion of offense. Fields leads the Cavaliers with 11 three-point goals, while Poticher leads all scorers with 90 points. Poticher has also pulled down 130 rebounds over 11 games, a whopping 61 more than the next closest rebounder on the team. Barclay is the team’s second-leading scorer with 80 points and has knocked down 8 three-pointers. Her 51 deflections easily puts her in the team lead. Palmer leads West with 33 steals.

Greenbrier West was scheduled to host Tygarts Valley on Thursday evening, but Randolph County Schools made a late decision to suspend all activities due to rising COVID-19 numbers within the county. The next scheduled game is at Pocahontas County on Wednesday, January 19 at 7 P.M.
