Melvin E. Shafer
SHAFER
Melvin was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Smoot, West Virginia on October 16, 1931. He was a United States Marine, a former Manufacturing Executive, a member of Sunrise United Methodist Church, a life member of the Marine Corp League, and a volunteer at the Colorado Springs Police Training Academy for twenty five years.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mazie Marie (Bennett) Shafer, parents Lacy James Shafer and Nora Ellen (Sears-Shafer) Foster, stepmother Mae (Martin) Shafer, grandparents Rufus Cyrus Shafer and Annabelle (Gillespie) Shafer, sister Ruth (Shafer) Thomas, and brother Stephen Foster.
Melvin is survived by daughter Vicki Lynn (Shafer) Unger (John), grandchildren Sarah Kathleen (McCormick) Dunn (Brandon), Ryan Patrick McCormick, all of Colorado Springs.
Sisters Shirley (Shafer) Birchfield, Patty (Foster) Buck, brother Ricky Shafer, brother-in-law Sheldon Thomas, and sister-in-law Drucilla Foster.
