The Lady Cavaliers started their week Tuesday, December 7 in Hinton to face a formidable Summers County squad. West was only able to knock down one shot in the first quarter, with Ava Barclay sinking the lone Cavalier basket. Summers County got balanced scoring from Maggie Stover, Sullivan Pivont, and Jesse Ward to build a 14-2 lead. In the second quarter, the Cavalier output wasn’t much better as West could only muster two scores and trailed 28-6 at halftime. The third quarter was easily the best stanza of the night for Greenbrier West. The Cavaliers got four players in the scoring column with Meagan Poticher and Barclay doing their damage from the free throw line. Unfortunately for West, the Lady Bobcats poured in 21 points themselves with six players getting in the scoring column for a 49-16 advantage. The Cavaliers would match Summers County’s output in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn’t be nearly enough, sending West to a 54-21 loss.
Poticher led the Cavaliers with eight points and 13 rebounds, also blocking three shots and making two steals for a well-rounded effort. Natalie Agee added two points, four steals, and four blocks. Turnovers were detrimental to the West effort as the Cavaliers committed 23 giveaways. Pivont and Stover shared in high-scorer honors with 12 points each for the victors. The loss dropped Greenbrier West to 1-2 on the season.

CHARMCO – An undermanned Greenbrier West squad suffered their third consecutive defeat of the young season on Friday, December 10, falling 47-24 to Pocahontas County. The Lady Cavaliers were without the services of senior Natalie Agee and juniors Raelyn Palmer, Desteney Walker, and Raven Dove. Agee, Walker, and Dove were sidelined due to minor injuries while Palmer was in Huntington for the State Cheerleading Championships. Greenbrier West is also awaiting the debut of promising freshman Preslee Treadway who has started light work in practices while recovering from a preseason surgery.
For the second straight game, the Cavaliers could only muster two points in the opening quarter. This time, however, the deuce was good enough for a 2-1 lead. Ava Barclay had the lone Cavalier score while Allyson Alderman went 1-2 from the line for the Warriors. Pocahontas County had plenty of opportunities in the quarter but Haley Spencer went 0-6 from the free throw line. In the second quarter, the floodgates opened for the visiting Warriors. Makayla Ervine led Pocahontas County with three three-pointers along with threes from Alderman and Olivia Vandevender. In all, five Warriors got in the scoring column for a 25-point explosion. Greenbrier West countered with ten points from Meagan Poticher, but she was the lone scorer for the Cavaliers. Trailing 26-12 at the break, West would buckets from four Cavaliers in the third to outscore the Warriors 8-7. The fourth quarter, however, would belong to Pocahontas County as they ran away from the depleted Cavalier squad for a 23-point win.
Neither team shot particularly well from the foul line with the Cavaliers an icy-cold 0-5 while the Warriors went only 5-14. Pocahontas County zeroed in for six three-pointers, though, while Greenbrier West was left without a made three. The loss dropped Greenbrier West to 1-3.
