Members of the Rupert Volunteer Fire Department are getting ready for their pre-Christmas food distribution and they need a little help.
According to Rupert Fire Chief Rocky Bailey, the goal of the fire department is to get over 100 meals to those on the western end of Greenbrier County so that no one goes hungry on Christmas Day. In order to make that happen, they are asking that community members donate non-perishable food items to the cause.
“We want a complete dinner,” Bailey said. Items like canned vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, pies and much more are currently being collected at the fire department. The goal is to work with the Rainelle, Quinwood and Smoot fire departments for delivery services.
“It is a multi-fire department event,” Bailey noted. “We just organize it.”
At this time, fire department members are asking community leaders for family referrals, Bailey added. However, families can also call the department if they need food.
“We want to give as much as we can,” Bailey said.
To set up a time to drop off food at the fire house, to make a financial contribution, or to be placed on their food delivery list, contact Bailey at 304-667-0401, or reach out to any member of the fire department.
“The last day we can accept food will be December 23,” Bailey noted.
