A Raleigh County man was arrested on the morning of Tuesday, September 14 after an evening of intoxicated arguing allegedly led to his assault of two female victims with a lit candle. Crosby Haney, Jr,. 52, of Beckley has been charged with interfering with emergency communications, interference with law enforcement, two-counts of unlawful restraint, assault and domestic battery.
On the date in question, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence in Beckley to investigate reports of a “disturbance.” Upon their arrival, officers spoke with the two female victims, who advised that the previous evening, “they were both in a verbal altercation with the defendant, Crosby Haney, which escalated into becoming physical.”
According to the criminal complaint, “all parties were drinking, but the defendant became highly intoxicated as the evening went on.”
The victims further advised officers “that the defendant became more upset as the argument continued and at some point, he grabbed two candles that were in mason jars and started threatening them with the candles.”
Both victims stated that Haney prevented them from leaving the residence, and broke one of the victim’s phones to prevent her from contacting law enforcement. The victims also allege that during the altercation, Haney struck one of the females in the face with the candle, causing an injury to her nose.
While speaking with the victims, Haney was present at the residence. Officers report tat Haney was “being belligerent and cussing at the victims.” Officers further report that Haney appeared to be intoxicated.
Haney was involved in a similar altercation with one of the victims the previous June, when he allegedly assaulted her for “possibly talking to another male.”
As alleged in the criminal complaint, dated June 29, 2020, “the defendant (Haney) held her (the victim) down with a screwdriver in his hand []. He then made her perform (redacted) on him while he berated her and made her beg for her life.”
Hany was also charged with strangulation as a result of the incident.
Crosby Haney, Jr. is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail on a total surety/cash bond of $53,000.
