HINTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — Martha Braswell, owner of Off The Rails Nails, is inviting the community to a grand opening and ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at her new salon, 310 Third Ave. in Hinton.
Braswell, a veteran, said she and her husband bought the historic Tomkies & Son Building in January. The building is now known as The Braswell House, and the couple hope to restore the landmark and turn it into a vibrant downtown destination. Off The Rails Nails is an important part of that revitalization, she said, honoring Hinton’s railroad heritage while creating something exciting for the community.
“Inspired by conversations with local residents while working at the city gym, I envisioned bringing a special beauty and self-care experience to Hinton and the surrounding communities,” Braswell said. She is working with Matt Nichols, regional business advisor at the West Virginia Hive, to turn that vision into reality.
The salon will combine personalized service, historic charm and modern beauty, drawing on the elegance of the 1920s and Hinton’s rich railroad history, Braswell said. It offers manicures, pedicures, facials and waxing. Guests can also enjoy Rest Assured Massage by Kelly Cales, which features a full menu of massage services.
Braswell said Off The Rails Nails is “far more than a salon.” She said it invites guests to step away from everyday stresses, relax and enjoy a welcoming, personalized experience. Through The Braswell House, she hopes to contribute to downtown revitalization, support the local economy and create a destination that brings renewed energy and community pride to Hinton.
“Martha is driven and dedicated,” Nichols said. “The Hive is offering our expertise and technical assistance to guide and boost her entrepreneurial interests – and her desire to bring something of value to her community.”
The WV Hive is an entrepreneurial program of the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority. It serves Raleigh, Fayette, Summers and Nicholas counties, as well as active CBRI Accelerate communities, including Logan, Gilbert, Kermit, Kimball and Williamson.
