LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Daily News/Greenbrier Independent is partnering again this year with the Children’s Home Society to collect Christmas toys for children in need this holiday season through December 2.
The newspaper office, located at 188 Foster Street, will serve as a drop-off location for donations. Donations are accepted Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Our goal is to collect 200 gifts for children of all ages.
The Children’s Home Society is expecting the need to be great this year. When you’re out shopping for your families, please pick up an extra toy–you can make a real impact on a child’s Christmas. We are also accepting monetary donations, and the Children’s Home Society will shop for you.
According to Mary Carr, Lewisburg Site Manager for the Children’s Home Society, commonly requested items include Legos, Nerf guns, Barbies, baby doll accessories, character items like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, ride-on toys, Play-Doh, developmental toys for babies and toddlers, kitchen play sets, tool play sets, superhero toys (Spiderman and Batman), monster trucks, and
sports equipment.
Carr stated they had a lot of requests for teens last year. Requested items include gaming headphones, Bluetooth speakers, fishing, hunting and workout items, water bottles, gift cards, PS5 and Xbox games, makeup and nail sets, remote control cars, model cars, plane sets, and craft and art supplies.
To help make this year a success, we’re once again grateful for the Ronceverte Baptist Church BYF Group, which will be collecting toys for the drive. The Children’s Home Society is a statewide nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of services to children and families, including foster care, adoption and mental health services.
