Beckley city employees who are either already vaccinated against Covid-19, or soon will be, are going to get an additional $500 thanks to a resolution passed by the Beckley Common Council.
On Tuesday, Sept. 14, councilmembers agreed to this resolution as a way to encourage all employees to become fully vaccinated.
“It’s an effort to incentivize those that have been on the fence, or refused to get their vaccinations, to do so,” said City Attorney William File. “It does cover all part-time and full-time employees.”
Each fully vaccinated employee must present proof of Covid-19 vaccination (Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson) to the Beckley human resources office by Tuesday, Nov. 2, in order to receive the $500. Funding is being provided by the city of Beckley.
Mayor Rob Rappold thanked Councilmember Tom Sopher for suggesting this resolution to the council.
Additionally, council agreed to a resolution granting a quarterly pay supplement to all full-time city employees through American Rescue Plan Act funding.
“This is for the employees of the city of Beckley that are working during the pandemic to make sure services are still provided to the public,” File said. “It is a supplement to their salaries. It does not raise their base pay.”
The pay supplement grants four one-time quarterly payments in the amount of $1,500. First-time payments will be received by all city employees who were considered full-time as of Sept. 14. Additional payments are expected to occur in Dec. 2021; March 2022; and June 2022.
At this time, the city is working on a resolution to provide assistance to part-time employees, File noted.
