Elkins, W.Va. (WVDN) — West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack will attend a community reception held at the Darden Mill in Elkins, West Virginia on September 17. The reception will be held as a part of the Appalachian Forest Discovery Summit coming to Elkins on September 17-18.

Treasurer Pack will present about his work in West Virginia and will be available for questions. The reception will take place at 5 PM following the first day of the conference. Treasurer Pack is expected to present at 6 PM.

The Appalachian Forest Discovery Summit provides an opportunity for stakeholders and community members to share and celebrate the work being done across the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area. This year’s presenters will include representatives from West Virginia Rivers Coalition, Cacapon Preservation Solutions, Kuhn’s Aerial Applications, Future Generations University, Pauley Genealogy, and other important organizations in the AFNHA region. Speaker presentations will take place at The Railyard Event and Conference Center in Elkins on Thursday, September 17.  On Friday, September 18, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in tours of significant locations throughout Randolph County, including Beverly Heritage Center and Randolph County Historical Society.

The reception at the Darden Mill is free and open to the public. It will take place at 101 Railroad Avenue in Elkins on September 17th at 5 PM. 

The Appalachian Forest Discovery Summit is open to the public and requires advance registration. Discounts are available for National Service members, students, and working professionals who are completing Forestry Continuing Education Credits by attending the Summit. Continuing Forestry Education credits are available for summit seminars. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.appalachianforestnha.org/2026-discovery-summit.

The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area conserves, interprets, and promotes forest heritage to enhance landscapes and communities in the highlands of West Virginia and 

Maryland. AFNHA works with partners to accomplish this through community development, conservation, celebrating cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for transformational experiences. AFNHA is a member of the National Heritage Area System. To learn more, see www.appalachianforestnha.org.
