FAIRLEA- Over two decades ago, Sherry Breeden decided to start sharing her passion for western-style clothing. “The Gettin Place” retail store, now a local favorite in Greenbrier County and at the State Fair of WV, offers locals and tourists apparel with both style and utility.
“I am a horse person. I always have been” Breeden says. “So, I’ve always appreciated western style clothing and boots.”
The Gettin Place originally started over in Covington, VA, where Breeden and her family primarily sold durable work boots to workers in in the Smurfit Westrock Covington Mill, who were once on a voucher system with Breeden’s business.
After doing well there, Breeden then decided to open another location, to additionally serve the Greenbrier Valley. Breeden explains the “newer” store’s humble beginnings.
“Sixteen years ago, I rented out a garage and started selling clothes and boots in Fairlea” Breeden recalls. “After several years of doing really well, we were able to buy a lot and build our current store,” which expanded quickly. Today, Breeden runs the store with the help of her husband Ricky, daughter Amanda, and two faithful locals, Mary and David Arwood. In addition to their main location, the Breeden’s also bring The Gettin Place to the State Fair of West Virginia every year, something they have been doing for over a decade now.
Specializing in work and sport apparel for men, women, and children, The Gettin Place is a one-stop shop for anyone looking for hardy clothing and boot brands like Carhart, Wrangler, Georgia, Chippewa, Rocky, and Simply Southern, just to name a few. If one is looking for something with more of a personal touch they can find in the Breeden’s store as well. “My daughter Amanda does custom embroidery, and people really like that for fair and cattle events.” Breeden explains that because she’s been in business for so long, she’s “seen her customers’ children grow up”. Breeden goes on, “I know what everybody likes. I know a lot of peoples’ pant sizes by heart. You don’t get that kind of personal help online or in these big box stores.”
If you have the chance to stop by the store off of Route 219 in Lewisburg or find them at the State Fair of WV this year, make sure to get a good gander of their merchandise. The Gettin Place offers customers of all ages something sturdy, stylish, and tailored to an individual’s wants and needs.
Plus, with a close-knit family running the entire operation, you can guarantee that the product and the customer service will be top-notch.
