Our 5-month-old Australian Shepherd puppy, Jasper, went missing on Friday, July 10th.
What followed was a massive, inspiring community rescue effort across our region.
Local searchers, family, and neighbors tracked him relentlessly, with social media shares stretching far and wide into Ohio and across the state line into Virginia. Notably, Matt Whitt from Premier West Virginia Outdoors volunteered his time, taking flight with his drone to search the skies, battling the severe regional storms and elements that crossed our area. When the storms grounded the drone, he hit the ground searching on foot alongside my husband and Alderson Big Wheel posting!
On Tuesday, July 14th, Jasper was miraculously found alive, lying in a neighbor’s yard on the Monroe County side of Alderson, WV. He was completely unable to move because both of his front legs are broken. When he heard our voices, he tried so hard to run to us but couldn’t.
We rushed him straight to Fairlea Animal Hospital in Lewisburg WV, where the incredible veterinary team immediately recognized him from the massive social media outcry. Jasper is safely stabilized on IV pain management and has both legs splinted, but his complex left-leg fracture requires immediate specialist orthopedic surgery.
Our community saved his life by finding him through the storms, and now a GoFundMe campaign has started to help us cover his emergency specialist surgery.
We would love to share Jasper’s miracle recovery story to highlight the incredible selflessness of Matt Whitt, our neighbors, and the team at Fairlea Animal Hospital.
