RUPERT- Postseason play began in the Class A, Region III first round on Tuesday night and the 2-seed Greenbrier West came to play.

The Lady Cavaliers got a big offensive night from Jenna Hunter and a pitching clinic from Laikyn Tolley to cruise to an easy 13-1 victory over the Webster County Lady Highlanders.

After a scoreless first inning, Greenbrier West scored two runs in the second and did so with only one hit. They were aided by a Webster County error in the field and three Cavs being hit by a pitch. So, after two frames, West led 2-0.

Then, it was the bottom of the third that really broke the game wide open.

Brooklyn Adkins got things going with a double and Ellie Deitz followed with a walk. Adkins would then steal home, and Kaelyn Bevins hit an RBI single that made it 4-0. Finally, a single from Emma Edens, an RBI double from Hunter, and a capping 2-run triple from Diana Porter put the Lady Cavs up 8-0 at that point. They added two more for a 10-0 lead after three full innings.

A couple innings later and with the game out of reach at 10-1, Hunter decided to add a few more in a fashionable way. She unloaded on the first pitch and drove it over the left field fence for a 3-run homerun, and the Cavaliers celebrated victory number one in the regional tourney.

On top of Hunter’s big day, Porter was 1-2 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Deitz, Grace Rhodes, and Edens all scored two runs each, and Brilee Redden had a triple and scored a run.

Tolley had a great day in the circle as well. She went the whole five innings, allowed just five hits, one run, and recorded 7 strikeouts.

The Cavs (15-8) are back at it again today, Tuesday, May 13 when they host the 3-seed Mt. View Golden Knights. The Knights defeated Greater Beckley 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
