PROSPERITY- The Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers kept their winning train rolling down the tracks on Tuesday night, April 14 when they got a big regional road win over the Greater Beckley Christian Lady Crusaders 18-2 in just five innings.
West knocked out 13 hits and committed just two errors on the night.
The Cavs got a little two-out magic going to start the evening when Brooklyn Adkins walked, Elliana Deitz singled and scored Adkins, and then Kaelyn Bevins got a base knock. Later in the inning, Deitz stole home and put the Lady Cavs up 2-0 early.
Jenna Hunter got things going in the second when she led off the frame with a double. Three batters later, Brilee Redden got a 2-bagger of her own and knocked in Emma Edens, who had walked, to give Greenbrier West a 4-0 advantage. Redden eventually scored on a passed ball as West extended that lead to 5-0 after two.
The Cavaliers (8-3) never let up and exploded for eight runs in the fourth to completely drive the nail into the Greater Beckley coffin. And with Redden controlling things in the pitcher’s circle, the offense was more than enough by a wide margin as the Cavs cruised to the dominating victory over the team that ended the Cavs basketball season in the regional co-finals.
Redden had another double-digit strikeout game with 10 on the evening. She pitched the whole five innings, scattered five hits and allowed just two runs.
Adkins shined at the plate with a 2-3 night. She scored twice and had five RBI. Hunter went 2-3 with three RBI, and Edens and Deitz each knocked in two runs apiece.
