LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Concerned citizens are rallying to support workers around America and the globe on Thursday, May 1, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The rally will be held at the Greenspace adjacent to City Hall in Lewisburg.

May 1 is International Workers Day, which commemorates the struggle of workers in Chicago in 1886, who fought for an 8-hour workday.

Rally organizers said, “We are rallying because our lives, our families, our public schools and our healthcare are worth fighting for. We are coming together to protect/defend Medicaid, Social Security and Medicare and to advocate stopping the billionaire takeover of our country. We support full funding for our public schools and full support for farmers and farms. We are advocating a stop to attacks on immigrants and other minority groups.”
