Winners of West Virginia Archery in the Schools state tournament: James Monroe Takes Top Spot

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) today announced the top schools and students for the annual West Virginia Archery in the Schools state tournament, which took place at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center on Saturday, March 29.

The tournament’s top overall male and female archers were Triton Brown and Carolyn Clarkson from St. Michael Parish School and James Monroe High, respectively. The top three overall teams were James Monroe High, UCHAA Upshur County Homeschool and Buckhannon Upshur High.

“West Virginia’s Archery in the Schools program gives students a great opportunity to develop focus, discipline, and confidence, and we are proud of the hard work and dedication they displayed at this year’s state tournament,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. “We look forward to working with schools across the state to expand this rewarding program and give even more students the chance to participate.”

More than 600 students from all over the state participated in the tournament. To qualify, schools had to participate in the state qualifier. The top eight elementary, middle and high school teams and the top 15 male and female elementary, middle and high school students were invited to participate in the state tournament.
