The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports that, within the last seven-days, that 1,863 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified statewide.
However, in more positive news, the DHHR also reports that 2,803 residents who had previously tested positive for the virus have recovered since last week, bringing the total number of recovered West Virginians to 126,853.
The vaccination effort also continues across the state. Thus far, 224,792 residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus, while another 354,422 are awaiting their second dose. All together, 579,214 residents have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, accounting for 32.3% of West Virginia’s population.
In Greenbrier County, 12,359 residents have received at least the first does, which accounts for nearly 36% of the population. In Pocahontas County, the 3,976 vaccine doses given thus far accounts for nearly 50% of the county’s residents. And in Monroe County, 5.336 residents have received at least the first dose, accounting for over 40% of the population.
Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Monroe Counties are all designated as green on the DHHR’s daily color-coded County Alert System map.
Currently, there are 5,305 active cases of COVID-19; a number, which as of Thursday, March 11, has decreased every day for 52-consecutive days. The daily positivity-rate is 3.23% and the cumulative positivity-rate is 5.36%.
At present, 161 West Virginians are hospitalized, including 50 who are receiving treatment in area intensive care units and 23 who are receiving assistance through ventilators. Hospitalizations due to the virus are also down significantly over recent weeks, now at their lowest numbers yet this calendar year.
