The Mountain Transit Authority (MTA), on Friday, March 5, announced that they will be resuming their normal bus schedule as of Monday, March 15.
Due to the previously imposed COVID-19 restrictions, the MTA was forced to significantly reduce its route offerings. However, as the majority of restrictions have now been lifted statewide, the MTA’s routes will once again see buses running hourly each day.
As the MTA is regulated by the Federal Transit Authority and follows the recommendations of the CDC, certain guidelines will still be enforced.
According to Tim Thomas, general manager of the Mountain Transit Authority, passengers will still be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
“Our drivers have a shield up, which separates them from passengers,” Thomas told the West Virginia Daily News. “And they’re required to wear masks and glasses at all times. Gloves as well.”
Thomas further explained how the MTA cleans and disinfects all of their buses, including seats, after each route.
“We’ve been proactive since this first started,” Thomas said. “We do everything possible to make sure our buses are clean and safe for our passengers and drivers.”
Due to the social distancing requirement, available seating will still be somewhat limited, and only one modality device, such as a wheelchair or a walker, can be transported at a time. The MTA recommends that passengers arrive at bus stops early to ensure a seat.
