CHARMCO, W.Va. — There’s nothing like starting the season with a top-five match up.
Friday night, Tug Valley, the No. 5 Group A team in the Associated Press preseason West Virginia high school boys basketball poll, squeaked past No. 3 Greenbrier West, 75-73.
The Cavaliers led 44-39 at the halftime break.
Caleb May scored 30 points to lead Tug Valley.
Kaiden Pack had a big 38-point effort for West, 23 coming in the first half.
Chase Boggs added seven for the Cavs, Chase McClung, Brandon Oscar and Gabe Medlin all had six, Lawson Vaughan had five, Logan Shrewsbury scored three and Evan McDade added two.
The Cavaliers (0-1) play at Clay-Battelle on Tuesday.
