Newton Rockoy Green
Newton Rockoy Green, 83, of Covington, VA, died Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at his residence, after telling his family on Friday, August 9, 2024, that he would be leaving them soon.
He was born January 10, 1941, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, to the late Noel Green and Iris Mesquita Green. Newton was confirmed at St. John’s Anglican Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Viola Raphalene Green; his fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Carl and Mabel Haynes and Ralph and Viola Burks; siblings, Audrey Chambers, Roy Green, Dennis Green, Pearline Boswell, and Bert Green; sons, Deno Green, Teddy Green, and Noah Green; and brothers-in-law, Charles Haynes and Ralph (Sonny) Burks.
Newton is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mazie Green; sons, Paul Green, Newton Green, Jr., Jonathan Green, Brendan Green, and Isaiah Green; daughters, Susanna Haynes, Kim Jones (Scott), Cierra Anderson (Warren), Brittani Green (Kenneth Hodges), China Green, Sahara Green, and India Green; grandchildren, Essence (Emmanuel), Alivia, Alexia, Christian, Tony, Deidra, Tamara, Kerry-Ann, Rasheika, Thando-Lee, Shamoya, Malika, Anushka, Tajhon, and Prince; great-grandchildren, Kavien and at least seven others; siblings, Norma Miller (Leroy), Lloyd Green, Woodrow Green (Salome), Claudett Green, Donovan Green, and Annette (Mr. Nelson); and siblings-in-law, Vincent Chambers, Norma Green, Keith Boswell, Junie Green, Eleanora Burks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
He was a former employee of the Homestead and The Greenbrier, with more than 20 years of service. Newton was a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Golden State Warriors, New York Yankees, and a supportive and proud fan of all his children in their sports and educational endeavors. He was dependable, laid back, and loved his family with grace, kindness, and a selflessness that we all should have. We will forever greatly love, respect, and thank God for blessing us with him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
