MONROE COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The State Birds, an old-time and bluegrass supergroup hailing from the Mountain State, has debuted their first single, “West Virginia Hornpipe,” produced by GRAMMY winner Chance McCoy at his studio in Monroe County.
The band is led by hard-driving 7-time West Virginia State Fiddle Champion Tessa McCoy (Monroe County) and singer and banjo player Cody Jordan (Charleston). The band also features Chance McCoy on mandolin, folk legend Jesse Milnes (Elkins) on guitar and Joanna Burt-Kinderman (Marlinton) on upright bass.
The State Birds represent the best and brightest of the next generation of folk musicians from West Virginia. Tessa McCoy’s fiddling takes the traditional old tunes of Appalachia and elevates them to a sublime level of virtuosity. Cody Jordan has a mountain voice as pure and authentic as the rustling of a coal car down the rusty tracks of Appalachia. Backed with an inimitable rhythm section, The State Birds strikes a synergy no group of Nashville hot shots could hope for.
The State Birds will be performing at the State Fair on Saturday, Augusta 17. Their first single is available for streaming on all services, and video is available on the Hunter Springs Studio YouTube channel.
