LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) — A routine traffic stop in Lewisburg led to a significant drug seizure late Saturday night, according to authorities.
According to a press release, on June 1, at approximately 11 p.m., Patrolman M. Blankenship, along with Corporal J.A. Vance of the Lewisburg Police Department, conducted a traffic stop on a silver Nissan Versa along Grand Avenue within the Lewisburg city limits. The stop escalated when K-9 Unit, Corporal J.T. Williams II, and K-9 “Kora,” along with Sergeant D.B. Eggleston, were dispatched to the scene.
During the investigation, officers received a positive K-9 indication for the presence of drugs, prompting a thorough vehicle search. The search yielded a significant amount of narcotics. Specifically, police found 66.9 grams of Fentanyl, 6.75 grams of Methamphetamine and 2.94 grams of Marijuana. Additionally, $1,324.64 in U.S. Currency, a Taurus 9mm firearm, and scales were confiscated from the suspects.
The following individuals were charged in connection with the incident: Brandon Joice Clark, 36, of Ronceverte, was charged with Persons Prohibited from Possessing Firearms, a felony. Paula Jean Matney, 44, of Dunbar, was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver, a felony. Christopher Lee Lyons, 41, of Ronceverte, was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver, a felony.
Patrolman Makenna Blankenship is credited as the arresting officer in this investigation, according to the press release from Deputy Chief J.D. Hughes of the Lewisburg Police Department.
