Troopers Charge 49-Year-Old with Wanton Endangerment After Wharncliffe Shooting

Wharncliffe, W.Va. (WVDN) — On Monday, April 13, 2026, Troopers from the Williamson Detachment responded to a shooting incident on Right Fork of Bens Creek in Wharncliffe.

Upon arrival, troopers learned that the suspect Carl Eugene Brewer Jr, 49, of Wharncliffe, made verbal threats towards family at the residence and later discharged a firearm multiple times. The victim, Carl Eugene Brewer Sr, 69, of Wharncliffe, discharged a firearm at Carl Brewer Jr. in a reported self-defense.

Mr. Brewer Jr. was later arrested and charged with one count of Wanton Endangerment and one count of Domestic Assault. Mr. Brewer Jr. was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. After being treated Mr. Brewer Jr. was taken to Southwestern Regional Jail to await arraignment.

This investigation is still ongoing.
