CHARMCO- On Thursday, May 9, with family, friends, and coaches by her side, Greenbrier West Lady Cavalier athlete Hannah Sweet signed her national letter-of-intent to continue her basketball career at Concord University.

Sweet, a multi-sport athlete that just recently wrapped up her final softball season, gave us some insight on her decision, her academics, and what comes next.

WVDN’s Brandon Baker: What was it about Concord that made your decision to go there?

Sweet: Concord has always been a good school for getting a teaching degree and I want to become an elementary teacher, so I figured Concord would be a good school for that.

Baker: What are your goals in year one?

Sweet: My goals in year one is to not only grow in academics and sports but to grow as a person and learn how to do things on my own. As for sports, my goal is to become better so I can get some potential playing time.

Baker: How will you balance school and athletics at the college level?

Sweet: I have already taken most of my prerequisites this past year so when I go to college, I won’t have to worry about those. That gives me a little more free time to focus on sports and my career.

Baker: How did your coaches at Greenbrier West prepare you for the next level?

Sweet: My coaches at West had prepared me for the next level not only in my skills but in my knowledge of the game. Mentally, I am a much better athlete because of them.

Sweet will enroll at Concord and start her next journey in the fall of 2024.
