LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The Lewisburg City Council met in regular session on March 19. Multiple topics were discussed including ordinances, board appointments and more.
The Council appointed a new individual to the board of zoning appeals in a unanimous vote. The member she replaced had been determined to live outside of the city limits.
Women everywhere were recognized in honor of National Women’s Health Month. The council noted that women were appreciated for everything done in homes and the workplace and that everyone present was extremely proud of the women in the city, state and country.
Also discussed was how state code requires that if a new zoning ordinance is to be enacted, a study must be conducted and a report made on the zoning that has been ongoing since 2016 in the city. It was pointed out this is a very lengthy process. A motion was made and passed to accept the study and move forward.
A motion was made and passed to schedule two public hearings. The dates and times are May 7 at 9 a.m. and May 8 at 7 p.m.
Council members made and passed a motion to add a stage to the green space for artists’ performances.
It was agreed upon to upgrade City Hall to make it a more efficient system and more secure.
Jack Hudnall advised that skunks are showing up with distemper. Hudnall stated that he recently had to remove several from area properties and they tested positive for distemper. He advised that unvaccinated pets could be at risk.
Lewisburg has been nominated for USA Today’s best small-town food scene and everyone is asked to vote to put Lewisburg on top.
