CHARMCO W.Va. (WVDN) – Some students and family members gathered at Greenbrier West on Monday, March 18 to speak out about a wall containing graffiti with multiple racial and misogynistic slurs and insults. The “n-word” appears as a recurring theme along with several other derogatory remarks. In a photo of the graffiti obtained by The West Virginia Daily News, one student’s name is seen repeated with each word and phrase. The student to whom the wall seems to be directed, Daedriel “DaeDae” Cary, is 14 years old. Reportedly, the writing has since been covered up.
In social media posts, statements and screenshots of messages provided to The West Virginia Daily News, several students and family members stated that the writing on the wall had been present since January. According to WVNS 59 News, Greenbrier County Schools Superintendent Jeff Bryant said the wall had been vandalized the previous Friday, March 15.
