MONROE COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Following yesterday’s announcement that Monroe County Sheriff, Jeff Jones had resigned, the Monroe County Commission met in special session this morning to select an interim sheriff. According to an official statement, the Commission unanimously voted to appoint Michael Miller of Marie, West Virginia. He was sworn in this morning by County Clerk Jeremy Meadows following the decision.
The statement notes that Miller is retired from the West Virginia State Police and is a former head of security at the Greenbrier Resort. Miller will complete the unexpired term which ends when a newly elected sheriff takes office on Jan. 1, 2025.
On the decision, Commission President Kevin Galford said, “To be fair in the Primary Election, we had to appoint someone not in the current Sheriff race. It is our duty, as a Commission, to not interfere or give anyone an unfair advantage in the upcoming election.”
