FAIRLEA- Monday’s signing night at Greenbrier East also featured dancer Alexis Dickenson.
Dickenson, who has been dancing since the age of two, signed her national letter of intent to keep her dance dreams moving forward with West Virginia Wesleyan.
She will receive 4,000 dollars per year towards her dance scholarship.
Dickenson answered a few questions about her past successes in the sport, her next steps, and what she is excited for as her career progresses.
WVDN: Describe your athletic/extra-curricular history at Greenbrier East High School or elsewhere:
Dickenson: I have been dancing since I was two years old. Some of my classes included jazz, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, and tap. I started studying pointe when I was eight years old and have continued it until now. I started doing competitive travel dance when I was seven, and over the years have won many awards.
WVDN: What awards and honors have you received over the course of your career?
Dickenson: I have received many trophies, awards, and plaques for choreography over the years.
WVDN: Why did you choose Wesleyan?
Dickenson: I chose WV Wesleyan because I wanted to continue my dance education and the style of dance done there was a perfect fit for me.
WVDN: What are you looking forward to the most about dancing at the next level?
Dickenson: I am looking forward to meeting new people and becoming friends with them. I cannot wait to have a group of girls that I will have right when I go to college. I am also excited to learn new styles of dance education.
Dickenson also had a list of people that she wanted to thank personally for their help and support through her long journey to this point.
“I would like to thank my parents who supported me throughout all my years of dance. I would also like to thank my dance teacher, Ms. Cate. Lastly, I would like to thank the teachers and staff at Greenbrier East,” Dickenson concluded.
