Deaconess Jacqueline Kay Berry Carter, 83, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
She was born and raised in Greenbrier County, WV, but graduated from McKinley Tech in the Washington, DC, school system in the late ‘50s due to segregation.
Deaconess Jackie was a faithful lifetime member of First Baptist Church, where she served on both the Mass Choir and the Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Community Outreach Ministry called The Neighborhood Club.
In addition to her parents, Reginald Ralph Berry and Mabel Pettis Berry, she was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Berry, Sr., and William “Billy” Carter; a granddaughter, Kara Berry; and a grandson, Jerome Taylor.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Carter, Sr.; her daughters, Karen Winkfield, Kayla Mann (Dale), and Tracy Berry (Thomas); sons, Kenneth Carter, Jr. (Rosemary) and Kendrick Carter (Becky).
She will be missed by her grandchildren, Marcus Berry (Misty), Matthew Winkfield (Patrice), Michael Winkfield (Lillah), Monica Wilmer (Mike), Tonita Dixon (Jamal), Kadin Burris (Hannah), Keith Berry (Brianna), Allie Hicks (Greg), Koah Carter, and Kennox Lee Carter.
Her great-grandchildren, Ethan Berry, Whitney Pack, Natasha Pack, Taylor Noel, Bryce Winkfield, Braxtyn Winkfield, Summer Berry, Kaylee Berry, Rowan Wilmer, Amani Carter, A.J. Dixon, and Keyana Berry also mourn her passing.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of White Sulphur Springs, with Rev. Duane Burch, Rev. Greg Scott, and Rev. Ronald Sherrod officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
A visitation will be one hour prior to the service, on Monday, at the church.
