Elizabeth Conway “Connie” Jones Bell
Elizabeth Conway “Connie” Jones Bell, 99, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the Brookdale Senior Living in Wickliffe, OH.
Connie was the eldest daughter of the late Leola Hoke Jones and the late Samuel Houston Jones. She was born July 25, 1924, at Jones Mountain, near Glace, WV. She attended Mount Hope Grade School near Glace, Ronceverte High School, and graduated from Gap Mills High School.
Connie moved to Waynesboro, VA, to work at DuPont Company. On June 14, 1943, she married Joe V. Bell at Steele’s Tavern, VA. Connie then began working at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Hospital in Staunton, VA, serving as a waitress in the Officers Dining Room.
Joe and Connie moved to East Cleveland, OH, in 1944, beginning their careers with General Motors, with Connie working there until World War II ended. Connie also worked in sales at Bailey’s, the largest department store in Cleveland at the time. She and Joe also were custodians of a 15-suite apartment building for four years.
They moved to Euclid, OH, living there for 30 years. Following her husband’s retirement from General Motors, they moved to Winchester Woods at Mentor, OH.
Connie was preceded in death by Joe Bell, her loving husband of 61 years in 2004; her sister, Laura June Echols Holliday in 2001; and her brother, Willard H. Jones in 2016. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She also had numerous close and supportive neighbors in the Winchester Woods Housing Development in Mentor, OH.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV, with Pastor Everett Fraley officiating. Burial will follow at the Carmel Cemetery in Gap Mills, WV. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gap Mills United Methodist Church (Gene Arthur, 130 Mill Field Mountain Road, Gap Mills, WV 24941).
