What Is Doing At Rainelle
The Baracca Entertainment Society is very fortunate at this time in being able to present to its patrons the celebrated picture “Human Wreckage.” This picture is a brilliant exposure of the drug traffic in this country and was produced by Mrs. Wallace Reid after the death of her husband, who died a victim of “dope.” Mrs. Reid has attempted to produce this picture as a warning to others of the horribleness of the drug habit.
Greenbrier High School News
Oh, me; oh, my. Ouch! Vaccinated arms! Examinations! What a life. Fifteen thousand copies of examination questions were made by the English department of the school. What a handy thing the mimeograph is to make possible such a thing as a false or a true examination, which has been adopted in our school, thanks to the two teachers who proposed this but no thanks for the examination.
Letter To The Editor
A “belled crow,” presumably a pet bird, appeared in my field where my cattle run this morning, in company with about a hundred other birds of its kind. Will you please ask your paper who this bird belongs to? And who it was belled by, and when belled. I have heard and read about belled buzzards, but never heard of a belled crow before The ring of the bell was that of an old-fashioned sleigh bell – R. H. Boone

Axis Sally On Trial
Axis Sally went on trial for her life in U. S. District Court in Washington, D. C., this week. The jury must decide. Did Axis Sally commit treason – a crime carrying a maximum penalty of death – by broadcasting for the Nazis during the last war? A 10-count indictment alleges that she did. She is 48 and silvert-haired, not the young and beautiful woman soldiers imagined they were listening to.
Mountain Dew Popular
“Good old corn liquor” – probably not corn these days and probably not good appears to be making a steady comeback. Revenoors, waging a constant war against moonshiners, are “flushing” an increasing number of illicit stills. The law is arresting more and more of the reckless mountain boys who run them. The easy availability of sugar and other moonshining necessities, which were cut off during the war, has caused the increase in still seizures.
Greedy Snake
Ellis Murphy and Noble Peace were on Greenbrier River gigging for frogs and having great luck. They already had a large string and were talking of returning to camp but decided to take just a few more. Pace gigged a snake with a frog in its mouth, and bigheartedly passed it back to Murphy to remove it from the gig. Murphy swung into action. He flailed at the snake with the boat paddle. He killed it but his blows were so vigorous he knocked a hole in the bottom of the boat. The boat sank. The gigging equipment was lost. So was the string of frogs. Two wet and disgruntled sportsmen walked back to camp.

Ali Wins Unanimous Decision From Joe Frazier
His victory over Joe Frazier was only 15 minutes old before Mohammad Ali began talking like the champion he once was – and feels he still is. “I would love to give Joe another chance,” said the unmarked Ali shortly after gaining a hard fought, but unanimous 12-round decision over Frazier and averaging his loss of three years ago to “Smokin’ Joe.”
Brezhnev Visits Cuba
Soviet Communist party secretary Leonid Brezhnev denied that his country looks upon Cuba as a “strategic base” of power. He said Soviet military aid to the Caribbean island is aimed at “peace and tranquility,” and not toward any aggressive end.
Israel Accused Of Act Of Piracy
Egypt accused Israel today of “an act of piracy” and said alleged violations of the troop pullback agreement hurt the chances of a formal peace accord ending the Middle East conflict. Prime Minister Golda Meir said Israel was prepared to give back all Syrian territory captured during last October’s Middle East War once troop pullback talks begin with Damascus.

Kiss Optimistic About Casino Bill
Will the sixth time be the charm for those seeking legislative approval for casino gambling at The Greenbrier? For the sixth straight year, the White Sulphur Springs resort is lobbying hard for a local option election to allow the facility to open a casino similar to those found in Monte Carlo. “This is probably the most likely year for passage,” House Speaker Robert S. Kiss predicted. “If it doesn’t pass this year, it may never pass.”

During new business, the board voted to offer the elective as part of a pool of electives to James Monroe students as they register for classes for the 1999-2000 school year.
