GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Greenbrier County 4-H will be hosting their 19th Annual 4-H Venison Contest, Bingo and Auction on Saturday, February 24th at the West Virginia Building at the State Fair of West Virginia.
Funds raised will be used to help fund the 2024 Greenbrier County 4-H Camp. This fundraiser allows for lower camp fees for campers while providing them with a fun, educational, and exciting week at camp. Our campers take a variety of classes at camp ranging from crafts, recreation, cooking and opportunities to learn more about nature. Campers not only learn more about themselves but also learn leadership skills they will carry with them into adulthood. Youth leave camp feeling empowered and with new friendships that can last a lifetime. This event makes this camp more accessible to the youth of Greenbrier County.
There will be many activities available on Feb. 24. The day will start at 1 p.m. when entries for the Venison Contest can be dropped off. Participants are to prepare their best venison dish, create a visually pleasing presentation for their dish, and bring a typed copy of the recipe. The Venison Contest has a $10 entry fee, and entry forms must be returned to the Greenbrier County WVU Extension Office by Friday, Feb. 16. There are two age divisions, adult and youth. In each division, first place will receive $100, second place will receive $50, and third place will receive $30. Judging of entries will begin at 2 p.m. on Feb. 24.
BINGO will start at 2:30 p.m. Organizers will have a variety of prizes for this event. There will be 17 BINGO games. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25, tickets purchased at the door will be $30. The event will end the day with a live auction at 4:30 p.m. following the BINGO games.
