FAIRLEA, WV- The Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers hit the road to the eastern side of Greenbrier County to play in the 2023 Holiday Tournament at Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea on Tuesday evening, Dec. 26.
The Cavaliers faced the Wyoming East Lady Warriors, and after a slow start dug themselves too deep of a whole to climb out, West suffered a 68-42 loss.
West seemed a little sluggish to start the game as seemingly every pass they attempted was deflected or just flat-out stolen by the Warriors which they typically converted into points on the other end.
The Warriors jumped out to a 32-8 lead in the second quarter and never let up as they built on it even more to the tune of a 44-13 advantage at the halftime break.
Things continued down the negative road through the third quarter as tension began to build up for both teams and play became very physical in all areas of the court.
Preslee Treadway played well for the Cavs as she rebounded well and got to the foul line a lot (12-of-22). She led the way with 20 points.
Brilee Redden had a nice fourth quarter with a 3 and a coast-to-coast drive to the basket that she finished with a layup. That was part of a final period where Greenbrier West outscored Wyoming East 14-12—and the whole second half 29-24. Samantha Holliday also gave some good minutes for coach Mark Agee and scored four points and played physical underneath.
The Cavaliers hope to use the success they found in that second half and extend it into Wednesday’s game against Berkely Springs, who lost to Greenbrier East in the nightcap. West and Berkeley will tip off at approximately 3:00 PM in the varsity consolation game.
*NOTE*- The Greenbrier West JV team defeated Wyoming East 39-15.
