LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The members and their guests of the General Andrew Lewis Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution gathered at The French Goat for their annual Christmas lunch. The luncheon was hosted by Brenda and Linda Spencer. Officials with the organization said, “Their handcrafted decorations were lovely, and each person was gifted with an ornament to take home.”

Members submitted the following report:

“After saying the Pledge of Allegiance and reading the Ritual, Regent Suzanne Cronquist suspended the meeting to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party which occurred in December 1773 in defiance of the Tea Act of May 10, 1773.  The value of the tea that was dumped, in today’s dollars, comes to $1,700,000. Regent Cronquist ordered tea from Fortnum and Mason in London so that authentic English tea could be dumped into a bowl of cold water – alas not from Boston Harbor.  The members were presented with a word-search puzzle to find words associated with the Tea Act and the subsequent dumping of the tea by the Sons of Liberty. Can you name the East India Company ships in the harbor when the dumping occurred?

“The lunch prepared by The French Goat chef and served by their very able staff was delicious.

“The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit, nonpolitical women’s service organization whose main objectives are historic preservation, education and patriotism. Members are all lineal descendants of those who supported the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War in 1776.”
