LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The Shoe Box retail shoe store joins the ranks of a handful of wonderful hidden treasures in Lewisburg. There is so much more to this town’s amazing shopping opportunities than what you will find on Washington Street. Tucked away on quieter yet dazzling side streets, there are hardworking people in quaint and colorful historic buildings, doing double-time in hopes that folks will wander and meander just a little farther than the main streets.
Amanda Workman is the proprietress of The Shoe Box. She opened the doors of her stunning blue building in 2020, amid tumultuous times, and has worked diligently since then to remedy the daunting task of buying shoes, into a closely connected shopping reality.
Perhaps most people share an experience from childhood of going to the shoe store. The kind, welcoming nature of a friendly face that treated you like a king or queen, the one-on-one service of finding the perfect shoe and the perfect fit without having to sift through shelves and boxes or the knowledge of what kind of footwear that would make you feel like a million bucks. That’s what shoppers will find at The Shoe Box. The art of finding your style, your needs and your price point all while you relax in a cozy atmosphere.
“It’s so nice to meet people that are visiting the area, yet what keeps us going is our loyal, local clientele. Our struggle is that not everyone explores the side streets. When customers come to shop for themselves, their children and grandchildren—it’s a pure joy to hear them say, ‘Remember when we went shopping for shoes and they measured our feet?’ We love to provide a sense of nostalgia to some and an entire new experience to our younger customers … it really is the highlight of what we do.”
Not only does the shoe store offer a sit-and-fit experience, but they are also equipped with the leading 3D foot scanner in the industry. Each team member is trained to educate customers on proper orthotics and shoes for their needs.
“We want to provide a positive and comfortable shopping experience to all who enter,” says Workman. The Shoe Box offers great name brands focused on comfort, running and practicality for women, children and men. Workman says that they continue to learn what their customers’ needs and wants are, “We enjoy evolving as we continually learn what our customers are looking for.”
