LINDSIDE, WV- After a close first quarter on Saturday evening, Nov. 11, the (1) James Monroe Mavericks took off in the second and never looked back in their Class A state playoff opening round 48-15 win over the (16) Sherman Tide.
Maverick QB Layton Dowdy had a hand in six touchdowns–five passing–and threw for 195 yards and ran for 42 more.
However, as is typical for James Monroe, there was help in the stat column. Chaz Boggs had 150 total yards and Brock Parker accounted for 130. Parker had three touchdowns and Boggs had two.
The Mavericks used a dominating 21-3 second half to put any hope of a Tide comeback on the backburner and out the window.
James Monroe is back home this Saturday, Nov. 18 against (8) Cameron at 1:30 PM.
