WHITE SULPHUR SPGS, WV- The Greenbrier Resort Hotel held their first ever Division-1 college basketball game in Colonial Hall on Friday night, Nov. 10 between Marshall and Radford.
Former West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins was in attendance among the 1,013 people that took in the event. Radford, coached by former WVU point guard Darris Nichols, defeated the Thundering Herd 66-62 behind a game-high 22 points from sophomore Kenyon Giles.
The ending was of dramatic fashion.
With 1.5 seconds left, Radford’s Bryan Antoine hit a 3, got fouled, and converted three free throw to ice the contest in favor of the Highlanders.
The game seemed to be a great success and was sort of a trial run for a possible NCAA basketball tournament in the coming years, maybe even as soon as next season and could potentially feature some power conference teams.
