[WVDN] You’ve been in IT all your life, how did you choose this field?
My career really hasn’t been about IT, rather it has been one of “connecting the dots,” where each “dot” represents a key individual. I’ve always sought to surround myself with exceptional people, each contributing crucial elements to the larger picture of success. By connecting with people of diverse skills and backgrounds, I found a track to learning, growth and success. I feel that is more important than looking at the path I have taken.
[WVDN] Any advice for people considering the IT industry?
I chose a career in the IT industry because I enjoy solving problems for people and like the continuously evolving technology puzzle. It’s crucial for anyone aspiring to enter any field, especially technology, to recognize it as more than just a job; it has to be something they enjoy doing.
[WVDN] Why Greenbrier County?
I grew up in the Alleghany Highlands and later moved across the border to Greenbrier County. This region is one of the most beautiful areas in the country, and the decision to call it home was an easy one.
[WVDN] What drives you to support nonprofits and youth?
I am deeply committed to supporting organizations like High Rocks (www.highrocks.org ), which focuses on education, empowerment and inspiration. My involvement as a board member and volunteer has been incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, supporting the Mountaineer Clay Crushers and MaKayla Scott, who embody the spirit of helping young individuals realize their dreams, is vital. At Greenbrier Technologies & Electric, we actively contribute to 4-H and local youth league sports to nurture the community’s future.
[WVDN] Can you share a particularly memorable person who you think has had a great impact on our community?
Sarah Riley, director of High Rocks, has been a profound source of inspiration for me. Her relentless dedication, unwavering belief in people and ability to overcome challenges are qualities I deeply respect. Witnessing her impact has reinforced my belief in the power and importance of community service.
[WVDN] If you could spend an hour with any West Virginian, who would it be?
Rather than going back in time, I often find myself reflecting on a specific occasion when I had the opportunity to serve Brad Smith, the CEO of Intuit and current president of Marshall University, as a customer. I sat across from him and marveled at the fact that this individual was at the helm of Intuit, the creator of globally recognized software like Quicken and QuickBooks. This experience left me feeling humbled and inspired by his journey, achievements and commitment to West Virginia.
