SENECA ROCKS, W.Va. (WVDN) – Join us at Monongahela National Forest’s Seneca Shadows Campground Amphitheater for the Summer Concert and Speaker Series. You do not need to be a guest of the campground to attend. All programs are free of charge and sponsored by the Eastern National Forests Interpretive Association in cooperation with American Land & Leisure. In the event of inclement weather, programs will be moved to the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center Auditorium. All programs are subject to change or cancellation at any time. 

  • Saturday, Aug. 12, 7:30-9 p.m.: Music with Ben Townsend. Ben performs a rich blend of old-time music on banjo and fiddle. Meet at Seneca Shadows Campground Amphitheater.
  • Saturday, Aug. 19, 7:30-9 p.m.: An Evening with Bats at Seneca Rocks Discovery Center Auditorium. Join Leslie Surges of Bat Conservation and Rescue of Virginia to learn all about nature’s flying bug zappers and eavesdrop on their echolocation calls. The event starts with a live bat program, followed by a short walk to look for bats using bat detector equipment. Meet at Seneca Rocks Discovery Center Auditorium.
  • Saturday, Aug. 26, 7:30-9 p.m.: Mon Mania! Are you smarter than a Forest Ranger? Find out at this interactive gameshow for all ages. Earn points, win prizes, roast s’mores, and learn a little more about Monongahela National Forest along the way. Meet at Seneca Shadows Campground Amphitheater.
  • Saturday, Sept. 2, 7-9 p.m.: Music with Crandall Creek. Since forming in 2015, this bluegrass band has received significant chart success and reached many career milestones. In 2022, Crandall Creek’s single, “Molly Burns,” debuted at No. 7 on the Bluegrass Today Top 20 weekly chart. Meet at Seneca Shadows Campground Amphitheater.
  • Sunday, Sept. 3, 7:30-9 p.m.: Scaling the Rocks. Have you ever wondered how people climb Seneca Rocks? Join Climbing Ranger Matt O’Brien for a brief history of the climbing techniques and equipment used to scale the rocks. Meet at Seneca Shadows Campground Amphitheater. 

Contact the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center at (304) 567-2827 for more information about these programs. The center is open Thursday through Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The Historic Sites Homestead is open Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
