SOPHIA, WV- For the second night in a row, the Central Greenbrier all-stars pitching has been literally unhittable. In Wednesday’s victory, it was a no-hitter from Carter Huffman that stole the show and on Friday night against Princeton, it was Evan Dixon’s turn to toss a no-no.
Dixon went four innings and did not allow a single hit and had six strikeouts in CG’s 11-0 win over Princeton.
With Central Greenbrier facing elimination for the second consecutive game, they have come up big at the plate and on the mound.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, CG came back up in the top of the second inning and found their rhythm.
Acen Workman laced a one-out double and scored on Peyton Ervin’s RBI groundout immediately after. CG would then get two more runs on an error later in the frame, score on a wild pitch and pick up a run on Alex Hanna’s RBI single that plated Kayden Hinkle. After the wild chaos, Central Greenbrier led 6-0 after two.
They got three more runs in the third by way of an error and a Colton DeHaven RBI base hit. That made it 9-0 and put CG in complete control of the contest.
And much like the previous game with Huffman, Dixon only needed one run. He controlled the strike zone all night and had Princeton’s hitters off balance as CG cruised to another shutout win.
Bo Bundy (2-3, run) and DeHaven (2-2, run, RBI) had multiple hits to lead Central Greenbrier on offense. Hinkle (1-1, 2 runs) and James Godby (1-1, 2 runs) also contributed.
CG will play tomorrow at 2:00 PM in Sophia against Shady. The winner will advance to the state tournament in Bridgeport.
