Floyd “Shang” Kenner Parker, 88, of Union, WV, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA, following a short illness.
He was born at Sarton, WV, on March 4, 1929, a son of Earl Edward and Pauline Marymoore Pence Parker.
Mr. Parker was a retired Monroe County school bus operator, a timberman and farmer, a member of the Mt. Herman Baptist Church at Sarton, and he had a passion for his 1957 Chevy that he entered in parades and won many trophies. He also had a passion for scrapbooking and birdwatching.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Donna Jean Payne Parker, on October 24, 2011; a son-in-law, Marvin Reynolds; and a brother, Alfred Edward Parker.
He is survived by four daughters, Brenda Reynolds, Ruth Fullen, Jennifer Walker and husband, Jeff, and Shelia Parker, all of Union; a son, Kyle Parker and wife, Linda, of Union; three grandchildren, Teressa Morosine and husband, Michael, of Roanoke, Travis Reynolds of Union, and Kayla Counts and husband, Jeremy, of Caldwell, WV; one great-grandson due in February 2018; two brothers, Glenn Parker and wife, Sandra, of Stuarts Draft, VA, and Charles Parker and wife, Ann, of Sinks Grove, WV; and three sisters, Doris Dent of Levittown, PA, Lula Ellen Short and husband, Bill, of Boonesmill, VA, and Harriett Kirby of Union.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 2 PM at Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with Pastor Ian Gilpatric officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Alexander Church Cemetery at Sarton.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, November 8, at the funeral home.
