FAIRLEA, WV- Four players from the Greenbrier East Spartans baseball roster were selected to the all-state teams early Friday morning, June 16.
Darris Boswell was named to the second team and his teammates, Ashton Cochran, Gabe Patton and Clayton Morgan took home honorable mention honors.
Boswell, a shortstop and pitcher, hit .400 and had seven doubles. He also knocked in 23 runs and scored 30 more himself. He pitched 51.2 innings, and his second-team selection capped his career in a big way.
Cochran posted a .325 average and was second on the team to Boswell in hits with 41. He had six doubles, two home runs and led the team with 25 RBIs and 34 runs scored.
Patton scored 20 runs on offense but led the Spartans on the mound consistently through the season. He threw 55.2 innings, scattered just 43 hits, was 5-2 and his ERA ended at 2.38. He had 48 strikeouts and had a no-hitter against Princeton.
Morgan, an excellent defensive catcher, was also big at the plate where he hit .324. He finished with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 24 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
