ALDERSON, WV- The Alderson Archers participated in the NASP Open World Championship on Friday, June 9, at Myrtle Beach and gave a strong showing for their community.
Overall the team placed 16th out of 40 teams nationwide.
The team was led by their captains, Eli White and Kinley Honaker. White placed 10th out of 428 Elementary Boys and Honaker placed 14th out of 393 Elementary Girls.
White’s impressive showing was fun to watch, but he still gave credit to his entire team and enjoyed himself in the event.
“It was a lot of fun to go to the tournament with his team,” White said.
“I think the team did really well, everyone tried their best. We also learned a lot along the way,” he added.
Coach Jason Ward may have had a bigger smile than the kids.
“I am so proud of them,” Ward said.
“They overcame so many obstacles along the way, and never made any excuses. All of the coaches are excited for the future of this program as we expand to an elementary and middle school team, and we look forward to holding our own tournaments once the new school is completed and we are so proud of these kids,” Ward reiterated.
The archers are still practicing this summer and the next tournaments will be local starting in January 2024.
