An incredible season that saw the Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers (23-4) reach the state tournament has reached its final ending as the all-state selections were announced early Wednesday morning, June 7.
West had four names on the list.
Brilee Redden, a freshman standout pitcher and hitter, was selected to the first team as a utility player. Redden had an astonishing 1.38 ERA on the mound with 175 strikeouts, and at the plate, hit .483 and drove in 30 runs. She scored 39 runs as well.
“It feels really good,” Redden said when asked how it felt to be a first-team freshman.
“I was surprised considering I’m just a freshman. I think my teammates and I worked really hard this year to earn this recognition,” she added.
Sophomore Preslee Treadway joined Redden on the first team as an infielder. The shortstop hit .525, had seven home runs and 40 RBIs. She also scored 39 runs while displaying super athleticism.
Coming in on the honorable mention list were Emma Ames and Maddie Fields. Ames, a senior, had some huge moments on the diamond including one game where she had a grand slam and seven RBIs. She concluded with a .421 average, four home runs and 32 RBIs. Fields, a sophomore, also impressed. She hit .440, had three home runs, 32 RBIs and was a perfect 27-for-27 on stolen bases.
“Honestly, it feels pretty great,” Ames said.
“I have put so much work and time into this sport and it feels amazing to see all my hard work pay off. Although I put a lot of effort into my playing ability, so have my coaches. From staying after practice to helping me with something or just answering any questions I may have to better understand the game, if you told me last year that I would be in the position I am today I would’ve never believed you. I am genuinely just proud of myself for how far I came and how I was able to finish up my senior year as something I will always remember,” Ames said passionately.
Fields also expressed great gratitude.
“I feel honored to be considered for the honorable mention all-state selection. I’ve worked hard this year to help my team with our successful season. It’s nice to be recognized by others for the hard work I’ve put in. There were a lot of good girls on the list, and I’m honored to be mentioned beside them,” Fields stated.
“It’s an honor to be named Class A all-state first team,” Treadway said.
“Greenbrier West softball has worked so hard this season, and i have truly been blessed to be a part of my softball team, along with being blessed to have the coaches we do,” Treadway added.
