FAIRLEA, WV- Surrounded by family and coaches, Greenbrier East wrestling standout Thomas Mullins is headed to West Virginia Tech to continue his career after recently signing his national letter of intent with the Golden Bears at Greenbrier East High School.
Mullins, a multi-year state qualifier will bring a lot to the WV Tech program and head coach Dustin Stough. His cousin, Jacob Thomas, is a former member of the Tech wrestling team, and his brother, Zach Mullins, is currently on the roster, so finding his original footing should not be an issue with family to guide him.
Mullins said that was one of the key reasons he chose to head to the Beckley campus.
“I chose WV tech for a couple reasons,” Mullins said.
One is because it was close to home, and I have a family member there and on the wrestling team. Another reason I chose to go there is the amazing coaching staff,” he said.
Coming from a solid Greenbrier East program, Mullins feels that he is extremely prepared for the next level on the mat.
“I think Greenbrier East prepared me well for the next level by teaching a lot of discipline in classes and in wrestling. I also think all my teachers taught me a lot of things for all my classes, and I think all my coaches working with me in wrestling is going to help me be prepared for the next level,” Mullins explained.
Adjusting to a new atmosphere and environment is key for any athlete, and with that in mind, Mullins wants to do just that before trying to do too much all at once.
“For my first year I’m just hoping to make a good adjustment to the new level of the sport and schooling. I hope to get good grades in all my classes and hopefully come out doing good things in wrestling, Mullins finished.
Mullins will enroll in the fall.
