A new company has announced it will bring 113 new manufacturing jobs to White Sulphur Springs by 2019, if permitting allows. The West Virginia Great Barrel Company announced during a press conference with Governor Jim Justice on Thursday, October 19, their securing of $27 million in loans in order to construct a 90,000-square-foot white oak barrel manufacturing plant on the 23-acre site in White Sulphur Springs.
“We’re proud to be the first major manufacturer to be adding value to white oak [production in West Virginia],” said Tom Crabtree, a representative of the West Virginia Great Barrel Company, at the press conference. “For every $40 worth of white oak we harvest, we will create $200 in value added by creating a barrel. We will harvest 13 million board feet of white oak, [which] will creat over $50 million in commerce in Greenbrier County, Monroe County, and the state of West Virginia annually.”
