The Greenbrier County excise tax on transferring property has been increased by $1.10, bringing the total tax to $7.70 per $1,000 spent on the property. The tax was raised by the Greenbrier County Commission in their regular meeting Tuesday, September 26.
“I think we are all a little reluctant to increase any taxes, especially in a time when the economy is still making a recovery, but this is a situation where it’s not a burdensome tax on anyone,” said Commissioner Michael McClung. “It’s a small amount that’s increasing [the tax] on the transfer of real property. The best indication of how people are going to react o that is the fact that no one showed up to the public meeting. I think this one is an easy call for us.”
