Greenbrier West second baseman Emma Ames is our feature in the second part of “Get to know a Greenbrier West Senior.” Ames has quickly become popular among the Greenbrier County residents. Ames, a second baseman, is off to a fast start for the Lady Cavaliers. She is in the top five in the Coalfield conference in batting average at .585, last week had a grand slam and seven RBIs against Braxton County and is clutch at the plate in critical situations.
What head coach Tony Hinkle said:
She’s a four-year player. She’s our second baseman. She moved over there this year to that spot. She’s a great kid and she practices all the time. Emma is a great teammate and she’s one of our leaders.

WVDN: What’s it mean to you to be a part of the Greenbrier West softball program?
Ames: Being a part of Greenbrier West softball is more than just a sport, it is a family. The bonds I have made with the girls and the coaches are lifelong. I would do anything to stay if that meant I would never have to say goodbye to all of the amazing people who contribute to this program.
WVDN: How has your family impacted your career?
Ames: My mother has been the biggest supporter I have ever had in everything. She is the reason I am here today. Things haven’t always been easy for us, but you could never tell that by looking at her. She taught me dedication, courage, strength and much more. She never misses a game, she drives me to any practice or game, if need be, she helps with the team as much as she can and she is always making sure I am always set and ready to go. I truly wouldn’t be where I’m at without her and I really appreciate it with my whole heart. I would also like to thank my mom’s boyfriend for taking time out of his day just to come support me and to come to as many games as he can. I really appreciate both of them, and I would never be able to thank them enough.
WVDN: What are your plans after graduation?
Ames: After I graduate, I plan to enjoy my summer as much as possible and when my summer is over, I plan to attend school at Concord University and obtain my BS in nursing in a four-year program.
