Greenbrier West senior Peyton Sprong is off to a strong start for the undefeated Lady Cavaliers. The speedy outfielder is a good athlete and supportive of her teammates. She is a 4-year player that swings the bat from the left side and throws right-handed.
What head coach Tony Hinkle said:
“Peyton is a 4-year player. She’s a slapper and very supportive of her teammates. She’s a good teammate. She is a very good athlete and a good kid. She knows her role and accepts that greatly,” Hinkle stated.
Sprong’s Question and Answer session:
WVDN: What position do you play?
Sprong: Most often I play center field, but I play anywhere in the outfield.
WVDN: What’s your favorite thing about softball?
Sprong: My favorite thing about softball is the time you get to spend with your teammates. You get to create lifelong relationships.
WVDN: Favorite Band/artist?
Sprong: My favorite artist is Cody Johnson.
WVDN: Favorite song?
Sprong: “By your Grace” by Cody Johnson
WVDN: Favorite movie?
Sprong: I don’t have a favorite movie, but my favorite TV show right now is “Gilmore Girls.”
WVDN: Favorite softball memory up to this point?
Sprong: My favorite softball memory up to this point was last year when we traveled to Moorefield because of the warm weather and team bonding.
WVDN: Favorite food?
Sprong: My favorite food is a big fat juicy steak.
WVDN: What does it mean to you to be a part of the Greenbrier West softball program?
Sprong: Being a part of the Greenbrier West softball team is a big reward and accomplishment. While practice time is the coaches’ time, game time is our time. I have the best teammates to take on the field with me and the best coaches to support us along the way.
WVDN: How has your family impacted your career?
Sprong: My family has impacted my career by supporting me all these years. I’ve always had everything I needed in order to play, no matter the circumstances. My family comes to games, but the one who stands out most is my dad. Even though he lives five hours away, he still tries to make it to a game or two every year. Last year he came to our tournament in Moorefield, and he plans to do the same this year. I’m so glad I have the support I do from all the people around me!
WVDN: What are your plans after graduation?
Sprong: My plans after graduation are probably very different than most senior,s but that’s okay. After graduation I plan to continue working to save money and completely decide what I want to do later in life.
