The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans only needed three innings to score 16 runs as they throttled the Pikeview Lady Panthers 16-0 on Monday, March 27.
A 10-run third inning sealed the deal for East.
The Spartans (4-1) started off hot in the top of the first when Alanis McClary led off the game with a single. A couple doubles by Josi Ervin and Lindsey Black, and an RBI groundout by Taylor Boswell helped East jump out to an early 3-0 lead.
A 2-run double from Boswell and an RBI two-bagger from Black kept the East momentum moving in the right direction in the second. After two frames, East held a 6-0 lead.
It seemed to be a doubles party as East hit three more of them in the third. Olivia Plybon, Ervin and Black each had one in the inning, and just when it seemed like that is all that could be hit, Allyson Martin stepped up to the plate.
Martin took a 2-1 pitch and blasted it over the fence in centerfield for her first career home run and the final nail in the 16-0 final.
Black went 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Boswell and Ervin were 2-3. Boswell drove in four runs.
East pounded out 12 hits on the evening.
Lilly Carola is quickly becoming another reliable arm on the pitcher’s mound. She did not allow a hit in three innings and had seven strikeouts.
The Spartans have a huge game today at home against Lincoln County, one of the best teams in the state.
